Music Ministry

Musicians-We have been fortunate that for the past few years we have continually had meaningful music in our worship service on Sunday mornings and other occasions provided by professional organist Patti Richard with support from Allan Carlson. Our organ is an AHLBORN/GALANTI  AG3200 digital. We have a small spinet type piano, also. As the church building and property are for sale, the instruments are both for sale, too.

The pastor and his wife have been the core of a small “choir” for 6+ years. With his retirement, we will miss the special vocal solos by his wife, Olivia, as well as songs by the Sanctuary Singers.

We are a small, traditional congregation. The current Hymn Book we use is WORSHIP AND REJOICE from Hope Publishing. Multiple copies of it (green cover) as well as the blue covered Presbyterian Hymnal would also be for sale.

We have faith that the right people will answer our call to purchase hymnals and the organ and piano and keep them in use in God’s service.

Hospitality to Those in Need

One ongoing mission effort is collecting and designating monies to be held in The Barnabas Fund. The Session will exercise Christian charitable discretion when fielding a phone call or a visit from a desperate soul in need of gasoline money, food to feed their family, help with the electric bill, etc.   Make a donation to build up this fund by using a pew envelope on Sunday for cash or write on your tithing check memo line “BARNABAS FUND” stipulating the amount to be directed from the total towards this mission. Mail a separate check (note Barnabas Fund on the memo line) dedicated to strictly this cause to: First Presbyterian Church Des Plaines, 1755 Howard, Des Plaines, IL 60018. As we are a non-profit organization, monetary gifts to the church are tax deductible.

Hospitality to the Hungry

For years we have been working with the Self-Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines. In addition to our yearly Souper Bowl Sunday Offering, we collect food and household goods to be delivered to the Pantry. During the year our Red Barrel (for the Food Pantry) remains out at the front entranceway waiting for your contributions of non-perishable foods, paper goods, pet food, etc. Lately, we have also collected new or like-new clothing, season appropriate, for the Self-Help Closet.

Hospitality to Those in the Service of our Country

We continue to keep those servicemen and women in our prayers who are far from their homes and families. Prays are for their safety and a most benevolent outcome to the strife in the war torn countries in which they are serving.

Hospitality to our Shut-ins

We have a couple of members who are home-bound or hospitalized or in a rehabilitation/retirement center. A phone call, greeting card, or visit would be a hospitable thing to do! Call the church if you need their phone number/address or location. Let them know that they are loved and that their church family is here to help!

Being God’s People

Love one another. It’s a big command for us to follow. With your help, we can do so much more to show our love for one another. And, as we work together we feel God’s love for us. Have a need? Bring it to our attention. See a need? Be part of the solution.
