Music Ministry

Musicians-We have been fortunate that during this time of transition we have continually had meaningful music in our worship service on Sunday mornings and other occasions provided by professional organist Patti Richard. Our organ is an AHLBORN/GALANTI  AG3200 digital. It is for sale.

Our Story & Clark spinet type piano, will be going home with a previous member of the church.

We are a small, traditional congregation. The current Hymn Book we use is WORSHIP AND REJOICE from Hope Publishing. These books will be finding new purpose at The Moorings.

73 like new copies of the blue covered Presbyterian Hymnal  copyrighted 1990 and 2 accompanist copies are for sale. $4 @ pew version. $13 @ for an accompanist’s version. $300 for all! Email to acquire these books.

We have faith that the right people will answer our call to purchase the organ and blue hymnals and keep them in use in God’s service.

Hospitality to Those in Need

One ongoing mission effort is collecting and designating monies to be held in The Barnabas Fund. The Session will exercise Christian charitable discretion when fielding a phone call or a visit from a desperate soul in need of gasoline money, food to feed their family, help with the electric bill, etc.   Make a donation to build up this fund by using an envelope on Sunday for cash or write on your check memo line “BARNABAS FUND” stipulating the amount to be directed towards this mission. Mail a separate check (note Barnabas Fund on the memo line) dedicated to strictly this cause to: First Presbyterian Church Des Plaines, 1755 Howard, Des Plaines, IL 60018, through October 31st. As we are a non-profit organization, monetary gifts to the church are tax deductible.

Hospitality to the Hungry

For years we have been working with the Self-Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines.

Monetary donations will continue to be directed towards this organization that helps members of the community in need. Non-perishable food items can be donated to red barrels located at various spots in Des Plaines such as the public library and the post office.

Hospitality to Those in the Service of our Country

We continue to keep those servicemen and women in our prayers who are far from their homes and families. Prays are for their safety and a most benevolent outcome to the strife in the war torn countries in which they are serving.

Hospitality to our Shut-ins

We have a couple of members who are home-bound or hospitalized or in a rehabilitation/retirement center. A phone call, greeting card, or visit would be a hospitable thing to do! Call the church at 847-299-4215 if you need their phone number/address or location. Let them know that they are loved and that their church family is here to help!

Being God’s People

Love one another. It’s a big command for us to follow. With your help, we can do so much more to show our love for one another. And, as we work together we feel God’s love for us. Have a need? Bring it to our attention. See a need? Be part of the solution.
